EarthBucks 2.0, KeyPears, and Texas

2025-12-07 · Ryan X. Charles

Earlier this year when it became clear I wasn’t going to be able to earn enough money from EarthBucks to fund development, I started doing some consulting work, and I’m happy to say I’ve ended up getting a full-time job at a blockchain company in Austin, Texas.

I seriously considered raising money for EarthBucks, but I’ve decided it’s too early and I don’t want to compromise the vision for EarthBucks by implementing VC-style high-risk hypergrowth prematurely (maybe one day though).

What I’ve decided to do instead is continue to build EarthBucks on the side until I’m convinced the protocol and software are mature. This was written into my new employment agreement, so I will continue to have 100% ownership and control over EarthBucks while my personal income comes from my new job.

My long-term plan is to continue to build EarthBucks with an enormous amount of help from AI. The latest and greatest AI tools are truly incredible, and I’m confident I will be able to implement the EarthBucks peer-to-peer network as originally envisioned using AI.

Along the way, I’m also building a new password manager called KeyPears. The reason I’m doing this is that key management (passwords are a type of key) is still the most significant user experience pain point for cryptocurrency, or for that matter, all of computing. So I’m going to solve that problem next, and then KeyPears will evolve into a wallet for EarthBucks and other cryptocurrencies.

There will probably not be any sort of visual changes to EarthBucks any time soon, but as I make progress on the EarthBucks 2.0 codebase I will share more information here. Thank you very much to all users who continue to mine EarthBucks and make the existence of this blockchain possible!
