We Deleted the Old Identellica Data
2026-10-17 · Ryan X. Charles
Our new Privacy Policy said that we still kept some data from the old Identellica identity verification, that we no longer used it, and that we would announce its deletion on this blog. This post is that announcement.
What we deleted
Until July 2025, accounts could verify through Identellica. For each of those accounts, we kept the Identellica user ID and name, the flags that showed whether a membership, an email address, a phone number or a government ID was verified, their dates, and the request tokens. We deleted all of it.
We never kept ID images, face scans, the email addresses or the phone numbers.
What remains
One flag on each account remains. It shows whether the account verified through Identellica, and it keeps that verification active until 2026-11-08, as we promised when we started paid verification. Copies of the deleted data can stay in database backups until the backups expire.
Other cleanup
- We removed a table that recorded a mining button setting for each session. No page used it.
- Each signup starts with a Compucha, a short proof of work. We kept each Compucha record for as long as the service ran. Now we delete it about one day after the account exists, or after one day if the Compucha was not finished.
