Consolidation Lets You Send Any Amount of EBX

You can now send any amount of EBX, up to your full balance, with no errors. Finally.

A new tool, consolidation, makes this possible. It joins the small amounts in your wallet into larger amounts. The app uses it automatically when a payment needs it, and you can also use it by hand.

This tool arrives together with paid verification. Many miners need it to pay for verification.

Your wallet holds many small amounts

Your wallet does not hold one balance. It holds many separate amounts, one for each payment that you received. These amounts are called UTXOs (unspent transaction outputs). Your balance is the total of all of them.

Each mining reward is a new small amount. A miner who mines for many days can have thousands of them, and some miners have tens of thousands.

A payment spends some of these amounts. One payment can spend at most 100 of them. Before this change, a large payment from a wallet with many small amounts could fail with an error that said that the payment needed too many inputs. For example, a miner with 20,000 rewards of 0.5 EBX each has 10,000 EBX. That miner could not pay 100 EBX for verification, because 100 amounts of 0.5 EBX make only 50 EBX.

Consolidation joins them

Consolidation joins many small amounts into one larger amount. It sends a transaction from your wallet to a new address in your own wallet. Each transaction joins up to 100 small amounts into one. Your EBX stays in your wallet, and your balance does not change.

There are two ways to consolidate.

Automatically, when you pay

You do not have to do anything. Before each payment on the Pay page and on the Verification page, the app checks whether the payment fits. If it does not fit, a window opens with the title “Preparing your payment”:

1. The app joins your small amounts until your wallet has 100 or fewer. The window shows the progress, for example “3 of 12”.
2. The app sends your payment.
3. The window tells you whether the payment was sent. Press OK to close it.

Keep the page open while this happens. With many small amounts, it can take some minutes. You can press Stop at any time. The work that is done stays done, and nothing leaves your wallet.

When your payment fits, the window does not open, and the payment is sent immediately.

This means that you can now send any amount up to your full balance, on the Pay page and on the Verification page, with no errors. Send max now sends your full balance. Before, it sent only the total of your 100 oldest amounts.

By hand, on the Script page

Select your balance in the top bar to open the Script page. The page shows how many separate amounts your wallet holds. When there are more than 100, the page shows a warning and a Consolidate button.

In the consolidation window, select the target number of amounts, from 1 to 100. Then swipe or press the button. The window shows the progress and the current number of amounts. You can stop at any time and continue later from the current state.

Consolidation is not shown on the Pay page, because it is not a payment to another person.

Try it

Open the Pay page and send a payment. If your wallet holds too many small amounts, the app joins them for you first. To see how many amounts your wallet holds, select your balance in the top bar.
