Introducing Mine Test: Test Your Device and the Empty Blockchain

I recently launched Mine Test, a new app that allows you to test your device by performing proof-of-work (PoW) calculations on your device and help produce an empty test blockchain. The PoW calculations use the real EarthBucks GPU PoW algorithm, called algo1627. The blockchain that is produced does not contain any transactions, but does have real PoW from users.

So far in testing, ordinary consumer devices vary from about 1 PoW per second (pow/s) to about 140 pow/s. Modern mid-tier devices should probably expect about 50 pow/s.

As of this writing, we are currently building the 151st empty block. This blockchain, being empty, is of course not technically valid, but it is a useful test for the PoW algorithm and for testing devices.

The test blockchain will be deleted before the real blockchain is launched. Most likely, I will delete it and start over several times. There will be a very clear indicator in the app when the real blockchain begins. If you want to be notified when the genesis block happens, simply visit the app regularly, and/or monitor the Telegram, Discord, or X channels.

To try out the Mine Test, simply visit the app at earthbucks.com and press the “Mine Test” button in the navbar. The Mine Test app is ephemeral and will be deleted completely when real mining begins.
