Introducing Automatic Mining (For Free For Everyone!)

Today I’m happy to announce the launch of the much-desired automatic mining feature on the mining app located at earthbucks.com/mine.

Below the main mining button is a new dropdown box that defaults to “manual”. Switch the box to “automatic” to instantly begin automatic mining. Be sure to choose your GPU settings first.

The days of hand mining are now pretty much over. I personally swiped over 65,000 times by hand. I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted! Moving forward, I expect nearly everyone to use the automatic mining feature.

In related news, mining is now completely free for everyone! Mining was always intended to be free, but when costs exploded in early January as more people created their own automatic miners, I had to start requiring verification, which costs money, in order to mine. This was a stop-gap measure until I could lower the cost of operating the service.

Thankfully, the new proof-of-work algorithm and the new mining API together have significantly reduced the cost of operating the app. My web servers are now 1/3rd of what they were, the database instance is 1/10th of what it was, and the production GPU is gone entirely. The costs are now much more in line with ordinary web apps. Thus, I have removed the verification requirement from mining. Everyone can mine for free, and everyone can use the new automatic mining feature for free!
